Taste the new onions!
The Kobe Shimbun on March 23, 2025 (Sun.) introduced "Uzunokuni Niitama Matsuri (New Onion Festival) - A day to get excited about the deliciousness of new onions! ~was introduced in the Kobe Shimbun on March 23 (Sun.), 2025!
The "Uzunokuni New Onion Festival" will be held at the Uzunooka Onaruto Bridge Memorial Museum and Michi-no-Eki Uzushio in Uzumachi Terrace in Fukura, Minami-Awaji City on March 30, where visitors can enjoy dishes using fresh onions produced on Awaji Island, characterized by their freshness and flavor. This will be the first time that an event specializing in new onions will be held at both facilities. The two facilities have planned this event to coincide with the full-scale shipment of new onions. Each venue will offer different events. At the Onaruto Bridge Memorial Hall, two farmers from Minami-Awaji will hold a tasting event, where visitors can sample sliced and grilled new onions while listening to their thoughts as producers. At the museum's restaurant, visitors can enjoy a bowl of rice topped with a bowl of fresh onions arranged like an open flower, as well as a salad and egg sandwich, available only on this day. Visitors who eat these dishes will receive a stamp, and if they collect three stamps, they will be able to stuff themselves with all the new onions they want. At the Uzumachi Terrace, there will be a "Zenkama Open - Tamar Golf" (2~3 p.m.), where you can play putting golf with a manegee-shaped ball, and an event where you can shout "Onion" toward the Onaruto Bridge (10 a.m.~4 p.m.), and participants will receive prizes.
