Bundy" - "Everyday life with skateboards" on Awaji Island.

Passion and making skateboarding a culture on Awaji Island.

Bundy, a skateboard store in Awaji CityThe Touzushio Science Museum Museum Shop introduces our exclusive original products developed in collaboration with the museum.
After moving to Awaji Island from Aichi Prefecture, the owner, Mr. Kobayashi opened a skateboard store, Bundy, based on the concept of "living with skateboards. About 10 years ago, while studying abroad in Australia, Mr. Kobayashi was impressed by the way the local people treated skateboarding, which lit a fire in his heart.
I was shocked to see that skateboarding, which I used to play casually when I was a child, has become a part of daily life in Australia, and everyone skates on it on a daily basis.Skateboarding is fun! I remember feeling a surge of excitement."

Impressed by the encounters and expanded communication through skateboarding, Mr. Kobayashi decided to take action.
After returning to Japan, I skated on various types of skateboards, including long and short ones. However, I gradually lost the feeling of skateboards that I was satisfied with, and before I knew it, I thought, "Then, I'll make one myself! I started by remaking skateboards. After moving to Awaji Island for business reasons, I felt the urge to live a cool life skating in the nature of the island, partly influenced by the movie "Lord of Dogtown" and partly by the feelings I had in Australia! That is how I opened Bundy.

Mr. Kobayashi hopes to not only sell skateboards, but also to make them part of the island's culture through various filters.
It is my personal feeling that many people in Japan have an underground image of skateboarding. I think that skateboarding is fun by its nature! I have witnessed scenes where new encounters are made and communication expands through skateboarding.I feel that I would like to change the image of skateboarding so that it becomes more fun."

This is a store where you can make your own skateboard.

When Bundy first opened, it was a store and playground where people could enjoy skateboards. However, reflecting the many voices of "I want to make skateboards! Bundy started making fully custom-made skateboards in response to many customers' requests for skateboards. Today, the shop receives visitors from both inside and outside of the island who want to have skateboards made.
Customers are now coming to me not only for custom-made skateboards, but also for various purposes and ways to enjoy skateboards, such as for free study during summer vacation. I place importance on making skateboards that are unique to each individual customer's order. Of course, we do not force our ideas on our customers. However, there are situations where it is not always a good idea to accept all suggestions from the customer. We value the communication as much as possible to find the color and ideal shape that the customer really wants, together with them. Even if you don't want something custom-made, please feel free to come visit Bundy!

Original project to make people aware of skateboarding

In order to make skateboarding a part of Awaji Island's culture, Mr. Kobayashi has started new projects other than skateboard production.I would like to propose unique projects related to skateboarding, such as fashion, music, culture, etc., in order to promote interest in skateboarding as much as possible. Awaji Island is sure to be fun if you have a skateboard in your daily life!

Our concept is "a life with skateboards. I think it would be great if Awaji Island could have a culture where skateboards are a part of daily life, just like bicycles. In recent years, skateboarding has been adopted as an Olympic sport and has beenbe beyond one's controlWe feel that public interest is growing. It is precisely because we live in such an era that we would like to create a place that connects skaters and non-skaters alike."

Creating a new culture on Awaji Island with skateboarding.
Mr. Kobayashi will continue to take on difficult but enjoyable challenges.
