sea breeze travelogue
A trip to see what it's like to be an adult.
Written by Kaoru Tamaoka

The modern bridge straddles the land. Whenever I come to Naruto, the magnificent view always enlarges the scale of my heart.
At the same time, however, if you look under the bridge, you will realize that you have gained a little distance from the dynamic natural phenomenon of whirlpools on the surface of the sea.
When I was a child, there was no Onaruto Bridge, so every time I took the ferry, I would stare in wonder at the violently splashing vortex up close. In addition, the stories of the adults were frightening.
The current is so fast here that if you get pulled into the eddy, you'll never float back up again."
But since the only way across is by boat, it's doomed to be a maritime disaster."
I used to have nightmares at night, imagining ships and people sinking to the bottom of the dark sea, entangled in seaweed, and wondering how much of it was real. The best was when I read Edgar Allan Poe's short story, "Swallowed by the Maelstrom," and although it was a bizarre scene in my imagination, when I thought of the whirlpools of Naruto, it was so real that my hands froze as I turned the pages. I remember that when I thought of the whirlpools of Naruto, my hand froze as I turned the pages.
In contrast, the current times are good. Instead of incomplete information that scares children unnecessarily, we are provided with a set of iba that properly explains the principle. There is also a magnificent "Uzushio Science Museum" built not far from the bridge,You can even go on a safe and fun cruise ship to the site and see the real thing.
If so, how would the whirlpools look like now that I am an adult? On second thought, I decided to get off at Naruto, on my way to Shikoku.
First, let's start with the question of why whirlpools occur. This is an easy-to-understand exhibit, so I can quickly explain it to you. The tidal current caused by the gravitational pull of the sun and the moon creates a difference in water level between the north and south sides of Naruto Strait, and naturally the tide flows from higher to lower. In this case, an eddy is created.
The vortex, with a maximum diameter of 20 meters, is the largest in Japan and is counted as one of the three largest tidal currents in the world. The other two are the Strait of Messina in Italy and Seymour Strait in Canada.Ummm...I got this knowledge from a science museum,I wonder if I have enough time now that I am an adult to think that I would like to go there.
After learning about the various aspects of the whirlpools, I went out on a tidal boat and watched them swirl for tens of seconds on the blue, blue surface of the ocean, forming and disappearing, only to be repeated again and again, and this was not frightening, but simply beautiful and powerful. The repetition is not frightening at all, but rather beautiful and powerful.
Growing up is not something to be dismissed. Naruto feels as if he has seen everything in the world, and he feels strangely content. And then we drove over the bridge again on our way home.
