The "Naruto whirlpools," which are approximately 1.3 km wide and reach a diameter of 20 m in the largest, occur at the border between the extremely fast currents of the Naruto Straits, which connect the Seto Inland Sea and the Pacific Ocean, and the gentle currents near both sides of the straits. On a hilltop overlooking Onaruto Bridge and the straits with the whirlpools below, the Uzu no Oka Onaruto Bridge Memorial Hall opened with the opening of the bridge in 1985, offering hands-on learning and a variety of gourmet foods. The museum offers a variety of projects to promote Awaji Island under the theme of onions, such as the giant onion artwork "O-Onion®," which is 2.5 meters high, 2.8 meters in diameter, and weighs 200 kilograms.
